DIRECTOR'S REFLECTIONS

Joy L Rankin
Library Director

What’s UP 2025!
Yes, With the year already forging ahead with a myriad of opportunities (and challenges), The
Roosevelt Public Library has always been ready with an unwavering passion for this, our,
Community and has laid the groundwork for many meaningful endeavors for your future-selves.
As a matter of fact, the Board of Trustees, the Library’s Team and many other vested folks have
crafted discussions, workshops and even an anticipated podcast to deliver REAL TALK
(YESSS, we are making vital use of the Library’s hidden gems – The VELT, our very own
Recording Studio). And there’s plenty to talk about! With the push back on teaching anything
BLACK, we’ll delve into hot topics like DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion), along with CRT
(Critical Race Theory) and All the hot topics affecting World views of our past, present and
future and how impactful federally funded programs will hit schools and libraries! Yes,
Everything Black is REAL TALK!

Growing up in a household robust with entertaining, I’m eagerly focused on everyone having a
great time, which takes on a ceremonial meaning at the Library! Here, at RPL, it means we are
going to ensure great experiences through sought-after Concerts and Plays, Engaging Book-
Talks, Cultural and Culinary Experiences, Wellness Classes, bridging Community Organizations
and other Life Long Learning Events.

A great place to start exploring, is our evolving Website! And our sustainable, revamped
newsletter should land in your mailbox in February. Just in time for ‘Everything Black’ History
Month.

I’m a huge fan of our film streaming platform KANOPY , where my latest fixation,
Sound Track to a Coup d’Etat , is a profoundly important documentary on the
Jazz World and Decolonization around the Cold War Era. Here are some other online database
goodies to check out:
BlueCareer; A to Z World Food!; Get Right With Your Money!;
Lote4Kids; TumbleMATH and Comic PLUS… just my suggestion to start your RPL online
journey!

RPL has been an amazing resource for everyone! And we plan to keep that going… So check
out our website to explore all the Fun ahead; like
Museum Passes; the Double-Dutch Clinic
(Every other Wednesday starting 1-29 th ) and Piano Essentials with Lynette! (February 8 th and
15 th ).
